We appreciate your photos! They help bring your stories to life,
and give our readers an opportunity to put faces to the people they
read about. Below are a few guidelines to help ensure your
photos will look their best.
We accept digital photos, hard copy prints, slides and transparencies. We prefer to receive digital photos rather than prints because it usually results in better quality when printed. But here's the catch: The resolution has to be high enough for us to publish. What looks good on your computer screen might look grainy in the magazine. For publication purposes, the resolution should be at least 300 dpi at a canvas size of about 3x5 inches. If possible, please save the photo as a JPEG file—it's easier to e-mail than other formats.
If only hard copy prints of the photos are available, please send them to us to scan and we will return them to you. Please take care to cover the photos so they are not scratched during shipping.
To take high resolution digital shots, you should use the highest possible setting on your camera. There may be several quality settings on your camera. Examples of these settings could be “normal,”“fine,”and “high.” In this case, you would use the “high” setting. If you have a choice of physical size, please choose the largest.
Please make sure the photo formats are TIFF or JPEG.
If possible, please provide a description for each photo. Give the full name of each person in the photo. If you are emailing the photo, please write the description in the body of the email. If you are sending a print, include the description on a separate piece of paper. Use terms such as “from left” and “standing” to clearly identify each person. If a photo credit is required, please provide the name of the photographer.
Photo Release Forms Signing a photo release form may be necessary for anyone appearing in the magazine. If required, we will send the form to you.
